Nie zliczę, ile razy spotkałam się z określeniem ZWIERZĘCEJ skórą roślinną tylko dlatego, że w procesie jej garbowania roślinnego używa się tylko trochę (!) mniej chemikaliów. Nie powiem też, ile razy słyszałam, że skóra roślinna = plastik... Czas na odpowiedź, czym tak naprawdę jest skóra roślinna (czyt. Z ROŚLIN!) i czym różni się od skóry zwierzęcej i poliuretanowej.

🇬🇧 I can't even begin to tell you how many times I've heard someone call an animal leather a vegetable one - just because only a few (!) less chemicals are used in its vegetable tanning process. I won't tell you how many times I've heard that plant-based leather equals plastic either... It's time to answer what plant-based (sic!) leather really is and how it differs from both animal and plastic leather.

A dzisiaj, w sam raz do sobotniego relaksu, mam dla Was post o skórze wegańskiej. Na pewno nie raz spotkaliście się z takim nazewnictwem czy to w sieciówkach, czy w internecie. Co się za tym naprawdę kryje? I gdzie w tym wszystkim jest skóra roślinna? Zapraszam na karuzelę 🎡

🇬🇧 What is vegan leather? Is it always a better choice? 🌱
Unfortunately, the term vegan leather is often a more sophisticated, fashionable replacement for eco-leather. Many fast fashion companies have started to commonly use the term vegan leather for chemically infused PVC, so it's worth being vigilant! What should concern us?

1. no composition ❌
One of the factors that should be a red flag is the lack of a given composition of the material. The term "vegan leather" itself tells us nothing, and most often it is a smokescreen for a material that, well - is not really worth bragging about.

2. Low price ❌
Unfortunately, a low price for a product is usually a sign that the product itself is of equally low quality. If you see a bag made of vegan leather for 10, 20 EUR you can be 10,000% sure that it's an ordinary artificial leather, which in wholesale costs from 5 cents to 1 dollar per meter.

3. Vegan (tanned) leather
Some time ago, one of the large multibrands stores "forgot" to mention that the Armani shoes described as "vegan leather" is only vegetable tanned animal leather. I came across the term vegetable tanning described as "vegetable leather" a few times myself! This is really a perfidious lie. It is worth checking what the item is made of.

4. 100% vegan?
Unfortunately - the fact that the product is described as vegan leather does not mean that it is. One "trap" are the additives used in production, such as glue, which is very often of animal origin. The second trap, is the increasingly frequent addition of ground animal skin to "eco" leather to extend its durability and - vice versa! Layers of polyurethane or PVC are often added to animal skins.
